Dave & The Mechanics are pulling in some unique airplanes this week. Most of these units were not wrecked. Rather, they were taken out of service, abandoned, or came to us from a fleet purchase. Most of the engines have been sold too. Nonetheless, we will still recover a long, long list of goodies from the Piper Cheyenne, the Swearingen SA226, and the Cessna 411 currently in the disassembly hangar.

Cessna 411

The Cessna 411 is a twin-engine light aircraft that was first introduced in the early 1960s. The engines for the aircraft have been sold. This aircraft was left unattended in a hangar in Texas. It was basically abandoned before we bought it. It has lots of goodies though.

Editors Note: As I researched this aircraft, I was genuinely confused by the variants. In one place, I see the SA226 series called the Metro II. Other resources call this aircraft the Merlin IIIB. It seems that the Merlin and Metro monikers were highly interchangable with this manufacturer. I am sure there is a source of truth out there for this little detail, but that has been hard to lock down. So, before the internet roast me for calling this airplane by the wrong name, I chose to use Metro II in this article as that is the most common overall name for the SA226 series that I could find.

The Swearingen SA226-T(B), commonly known as the Metro II, is a twin-engine turboprop aircraft designed for regional and commuter airline operations. It was developed in the late 1960s and became popular throughout the 1970s and 1980s for its efficient performance and capacity to accommodate a good number of passengers. With a comfortable cabin typically configured to hold up to 19 passengers, the Metro II is known for its short takeoff and landing capabilities, making it an ideal choice for flying to smaller airports with shorter runways. Its turboprop engines provide reliability and fuel efficiency, important factors for regional airlines aiming to minimize operational costs.

The Swearingen SA226-T(B) was designed and built by Swearingen Aircraft, an American aerospace company. Founded by Richard Swearingen in the late 1950s, the company focused on creating regional aircraft that catered to the needs of smaller airlines and commuter operations. Piper PA-31T Cheyenne
